#5. Richest Dog Alive
When billionaire Leona Helmsley died in August, the tyrannical hotel
operator and real estate investor left a $12 million trust fund for her
white Maltese named Trouble. The legendary Queen of Mean who spent 19
months in prison for tax evasion also reserved a spot for the pampered pooch
next to her grave in the Helmsleys' seven-figure mausoleum in Westchester County, N.Y.
Another source of family friction: Trouble received a bigger slice of
Leona's estate than her grandchildren. Two of them were allotted a total of
$10 million apiece, while the other two got zilch.
